“COMICS STRIPPED BARE™” SERIES – with Craig Phillips

In this masterclass Craig will dissect three short stories “X”, “Y” and Z” from his recently released best-selling graphic novel Giants, Trolls, Witches, Beasts: Ten Tales from the Deep, Dark Woods. Craig will discuss the creative decision-making process behind the anthology as a whole, and then will break down each story panel by panel. He will not only focus on HOW he has adapted each fairytale from its source material, but also on WHAT has been written and illustrated in each panel, and WHY, paying special attention to scripting art style, colour palette, layouts and panel points of view, dynamic, emotional resonance and more.

About the Presenter

Craig Phillips

Craig Phillips has created cover illustrations and interior art for Random House, Simon & Schuster, Scholastic, Hachette, Bloomsbury, Wizards of the Coast, Oxford University Press and many other publishers. He has also exhibited with the Society of Illustrators and Spectrum Fantastic Art in New York , and recently completed eighteen illustrations and cover art for Neil Gaiman’s American Gods colouring book.

Craig recently completed writing and illustrating his first graphic novel, Giants, Trolls, Witches, Beasts: Ten Tales from the Deep, Dark Woods, a compilation of world tales retold as comics, which will be published by Allen and Unwin Australia in May 2017. Craig currently lives and works by Lake Taupo, New Zealand, and he always feels most at home while making comics.
